Looks like you are onto something here, Russ. I like the idea of being puzzled by surroundings, where the real thing ends and where the reflection starts, or which one is which. For that effect, I think that reducing the amount of the area surrounding the duck, and avoiding sharp transitions between light and shade would help. As well as having a more colorful duck ;)

The last one works the best for me.

Thanks, Slobodan. Tomorrow morning I'll have a talk with the duck and tell him he's gotta shape up and get some color.
And Armand, I think I agree with you. The sun was just coming over the hills and hitting the water. Yesterday there was a pretty substantial rain, so the water was clean and, at that hour, quite black. The reflections got better and better this morning as I walked the river.

It looks like a coot, but the body seems a bit lighter than ones I've seen.
Great set, and I agree with Slobodan's comments.

The first one is my favorite. I like the smooth, cubist, abstract surface of the reflections on the water. Really focuses your attention on the duck and its wake.

It's a coot. A member of the rail family, not a duck.

Thanks, David -- and Eric. Yeah. I looked it up.
Had a chat with the guy and he didn't really think he could increase his color. Just have to watch for a duck.
