Good shooting, Seamus. Looks to me as if you used speedlights to raise the ambient light to a reasonable level. Joe McNally has a session on lighting a shoe repair guy and his shop on his Language of Light video series that reminds me of this one.

On my first glance at the first shot, I thought you had been snooping in my own home office. But I don't have that many shelves. My messes are mostly on the floor and desk.

The sequence is fine, showing in the final shot that a skilled craftsman can produce neat, even elegant work, while operating in what looks like chaos. I'll bet he does know where every item in that shop is.

I was in a cave - the only flash I had was the mickey mouse that comes with the camera.

Nice shot. Obviously shoe makers tend to messiness. My shoe maker's workshop around the corner looks alike and is on my to-do list for years.

H
