The other site has the story.

PS I'm not quite sure whether the date on the announcement is Mar 31 or April 1st; I fear that new Phase bodies are now only announced on April 1.

yes! fulfilling all your wet drone dreams... :)
Now the only thing what is missing is a sturdy tripod to use on the drone to prevent it from shaking all the 80MP pixels around the house... ( or IS)

I'll stick to my Go pro for now... ;)
Cheers,
Bernard

Will it do tilt / movements? It's useless unless it can do that ::)

It is called a motorized 3 axis gimbal not a tripod :) Such shoots on a drone might need two operators (most certainly need two operators).

Are you able to TS with a conventional DF+ and any phase one lenses apart the 120mm MF TS f/5.6 ? I do not think so. Open a pool here to ask who have a TS lens for MF you might be surprised. Even H owners do not often have the H TS accessory. Instead the use technical cameras or chambers. Good luck to adjust TS while the drone fly.

Hulyss,
You are right. Phase One have a spider-suspension accessory with a gimbal, the camera is suspended from the ceiling.
There is also a larger wall-climbing version that clambers up buildings while stitching high-rez images on the fly.

For stills two operators? I suppose at the time of taking stills the drone is supposed to stand still.

This material is very expensive. Depending of the weather, I think you better have a pilot to really stabilize the drone. The photographer give instructions and remote the gimbal/still with an another remote. There is combo remote but, giving the price of the whole set-up, I would never use it.

Hulyss is right. Someone needs to be paying 100% of attention to flying the expensive object.

The first video of one of these crashing is going to make me laugh till I cry.

The iXU150 (50MP CMOS) has been shipping since June 2014 and AFAIK none of those in service has yet to crash. The drones who carry them (fixed wing and helicopter type) are a bit more robust than a $40 ebay rig...
-
A RED camera rig is much more expensive and I have seen those on RC copters. But yeah, it's a lot of dough up in the air. So it's best to spend the money not only on the camera but on the aircraft and pilot as well. ;D

I think the name i X U says it all. :(

Tim Kemple DID crash one, but if I remember right he was using a DF body kit instead of an IXU camera.
I have a few friends who are interested in this for their drone businesses. It's a really cool piece of kit, and combined with a proper gimbal kit and gyro, will really make for some flexable rigs. The biggest thing with drones, as with hiking, is lightness. You get that here with the IXU cameras.

It gets more and more difficult to make nice drone images without any other drones on the it...
This is my air! i saw it first!

While they do have drone racing, I wonder if drone dogfighting will become popular. They used to do it with RC airplanes and streaming silk ribbons behind the planes. Cut the ribbon with your prop and you win.
