Title: Canon Extender
Post by: Bob Nicholson on March 09, 2015, 05:10:52 am
Hi folks

I have a Canon 1.4 extender, original version, will the current mk3 version make a noticeable difference to image quality?

Regards
Bob

Yes. There's a significant difference between version 1 and version 2, less between version 2 and version 3.

Yes. There's a significant difference between version 1 and version 2, less between version 2 and version 3.

I can confirm that the more recent extender versions are significantly better matches for modern lenses. This has to do with the optical design being tuned for digital cameras, which use a filterstack (unlike film cameras).

One could try using the Digital Lens Optimizer in Canon's Digital Photo Professional Raw-converter. It accommodates lens data for many combinations of lenses with different extenders.

Cheers,
Bart
