Title: Sunsets: red or orange?
Post by: dreed on February 28, 2015, 10:49:10 am
When photographing sunsets, it is often the case that the red channel peaks before any other channel and when it does, hues of red become yellows and oranges that cannot be recovered.

Since these colours represent a blown channel and quite often lead to colour posterisation, I tend to put all of those images in the reject pile but as I do so, I wonder if here is a place for them?

And when you print you can even have other color shift problems.

Choose perceptual, not relative, because the yellows can turn to an ugly green!

For the sunset problem, I've tried with success to use an radial filter to force posterized zone to turn to something more white and to obtain a better gradient.

In the radial filter parmeters, you can increase exposure and highlights to obtain the desired effect.

Have a Nice Day.
