Title: Epson 2100 help
Post by: situgrrl on January 05, 2006, 10:29:48 am
I've just bought an Epson 2100 and all the pictures I've printed have a magenta colour cast and appear out of focus - even though the files are in pin focus.  I've aligned and cleaned everything in the utility to no avail.  USM is of little help.

It looks like either the film isn't flat and parallel in the camera or the neg holder - the only thing is, the pics were on a digital camera!

I don't have a spyder as I can't afford one at the moment but use the ColourSync utility built into OSX and have selected it throughout the driver.  I know I won't get a perfect match for screen colour until I invest in one but EVERYTHING comes out pink!  I'm printing on Ilford Gallerie Smooth Pearl but the cast is also present on plain paper.  I have the ICC profile for the Ilford paper.

Thanks!

Charly

Are you sure that you don't do double color management? By that, I mean that both Photoshop does handle color management and your printer driver does too.
If you set Photoshop to use color management (in the Print Preview Dialog), you have to make sure that the Epson driver is set to "No Color Management" (see screenshot).

The head cleaning showed you've got ink coming out of all heads?  Run a nozzle test pattern and double check.  If not that try specifically a sheet of epson paper - matte heavyweight eg.

Tim's suggestion about Epson paper/profile is excellent. I remember that I helped to troubleshoot a green cast problem on an Epson 2100. The issue was that the paper profile has been made under Mac OS 9 and for some reason it produced a very heavy green cast (as if no color management was used). Redoing the profile fixed the problem for good.
You can also read Ian Lyons tutorial to see if you missed something - at least it will not deplete your ink levels. Ian website is [a href=\"http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps9_print/ps9_print_1.htm]here[/url] and you should be looking at Print Worflow 2.
