One of the best ideas ever IMO... Nikon has two new pat ends out.... One that the owner designs and builds his own lens (or lenses) and another for an adapter with leaf shutter on... http://nikonrumors.com/2015/01/21/the-latest-nikon-patents-1-nikkor-9-30mm-f1-8-2-8-build-your-own-lens-and-an-adapter-with-a-lens-shutter.aspx/#more-86878

Neither idea is hugely new. In LF-land, this is old hat.
Cooke convertible lenses, first made in the early 1900s:

Independent shutter module: all LF lenses fit into shutter units, usually standardized. Mechanical: Copal 0, 1,3; Electronic control: Sinar

Hello,
Why can’t Nikon use a global shutter system in there next generation of cameras then there would be no need for leaf shutters. I hoping when they come out with a Nikon D4X or D5 in the future that will incorporate a global shutter.
Black Magic video cameras are already using global shutters so it can be that difficult to implement.
Cheers
