Title: Stephen Livick giving up his testing
Post by: DarkPenguin on December 29, 2005, 11:17:16 pm
Never heard of the guy until I saw this linked over at Digital Outback ...

http://www.livick.com/method/inkjet/pg1.htm (http://www.livick.com/method/inkjet/pg1.htm)

Some good stuff in there about print longevity.  Too bad he decided to hang it up.

(So, would any of that Clearshield stuff help my 1280 prints?)

Yeah, as I said over on OutbackPhoto, it's unfortunate.

If you want to see all the old material that Livick has now pulled off his site, I've got the link on my page here:

Regarding whether Livick's recommended coatings will work for you, the answer is "maybe." The problem with many of these post-print coatings is that you're adding another element to the mix and you don't know what the downstream effects will ultimately be. Unless you test it, which is what Livick was doing. You'll note that Henry Wilhelm has only tested one such coating (PrintShield) and only on some paper/ink combinations.

The simplest way to find out is to do your own comparative tests. I write about this in my books, but the easiest way is to just tape some sample prints on the inside of a window and see what happens after a few weeks/months (keeping a control set out of the light somewhere).
