Title: Are there other ways to zoom in the Full Screen Viewer? (Windows 8.1)
Post by: geezerhood on January 09, 2015, 12:41:58 pm
In the full screen viewer, sometimes the zoom jumps are not what I want to use. When using the zoom slider or Alt +/- it jumps to the next zoom point rather than letting me choose the percentage of the zoom. I can't see any other way to set the zoom percentage and my searches have not turned up anything.

Available Zoom Points
25 - 33 - 50 - 67 - 100 - 200 - 300 - 400

Is there any way to manually change the zoom to a point other than those above or is this step zooming somehow tied to the way C1Pro works with the image cache?

Edit: This is C1Pro 8.1 on a Windows 8.1 box.

Thanks,

Don

Hold down the option key while dragging the zoom slider.

Matt,

Thanks for the response.

I should have stated that I am on a Windows machine.  Holding down either the Ctrl or the Alt key when moving the slider doesn't change anything in Windows. It still jumps in the preset increments.  That must be a Mac only thing.

What I am wanting to do is to zoom to a range between the fixed settings of 25 - 33 - 50 - 67 - 100 - 200 - 300 - 400, such as 75% or 39%.  Is there any way to do that in Windows?

Apparently this cannot be done.....

Perhaps I'm not getting your drift on this, but with Win7 all I do is use the scroll wheel to change the zoom. Does this not do what you want? Not in front of my machine at the moment, so I'm not sure whether this works with full screen view.

Geezerhood,

I'm sorry. I guess I should have replied sooner. I was following this thread hoping for an answer myself as I have the same setup you do. It does also bug me that I cannot set my own specific zoom level, but I've become able to live with it.

The reason I say I'm sorry is that I should have thought to ask you (not what you want to do --- still don't know why others don't understand), but why. My biggest issue is not making the image bigger to a specific size, but smaller. I want to zoom out! This cannot be done via the zoom function, but can be done via the "Proof Margin" setting in Edit > Preferences > Appearance > Proof Margin, and using the slider.

I don't know if that might not be what you want, but there may be some other way to achieve what you are looking to do? Let us know why, and someone may have an idea.

As to the "Why", often the preset zoom stages are too much or too little for what I want to see on the screen. I want something in between. Of course I can get by with the step zoom if that is all there is, but if there was a way to do a precise zoom it would great.  It looks like there isn't. I am assuming this has to do with the saved preview cache stuff created by C1Pro?

Well, in that case, all I can recommend is that you play with the proof margin setting and zoom setting, and also you can use the browser width/height to finagle what you want. It's clumsy, but may work. Otherwise, open up the viewer window via F10 and finagle the zoom and window size perhaps. Don't know if this'll give you what you want, and it's a little clunky either way, but may be helpful.

Thanks for the suggestions. It sounds a bit clumsy as you stated for what I want, a fast way to precisely zoom in or out on a full screen image, but I will still check out the techniques you suggested as they may come in handy for other situations I run into.

I don't know if this works with the Windows version, but I just discovered that the Focus tool can be dragged out into its own window. That window can be made very large, and when you drag the magnification slider, it has no hard stops and moves smoothly from 25% to 400%.

Matt,

On my Windows machine it behaves the same as the full screen viewer, jumping from 25% to 33% then 50% etc. with no settings available between those points.  Thanks for the idea to try anyway.
