Title: Worship
Post by: David Eckels on December 16, 2014, 01:32:38 pm
That's what I thought of when I saw my fellow photographer in this pose considering his shot.

Nice, David.

We photographers do have our own personal gods.

Thanks guys! I was playing with the idea of eliminating the rocks on the left to simplify the subject and removed them at the suggestion of Mark Alberhasky, friend and mentor. What do you think? At first, I thought the ambiguity worked, but now I'm not so sure.

for my "money" removal of the left portion of original horizontal line on which the rocks were positioned, leaves the figure and trees sort of "hanging"

I think it works either way.  If you'd posted the second edit first, I don't think anyone would have said you really ought to put some rocks in there.

FWIW, I think the left hand rocks give the image veracity.  Without them, it almost looks like CGI

Whatever,  it's lovely.  A fitting tribute to all of us who've been there.

My original view was that the rocks gave it a sense of place, which is why I didn't crop/clone them out. I'm gonna stick with that. Thanks for the comments. DV is a fabulous place and well worth revisiting. If interested, I am putting together some other images from my visit, which can be seen on my website.

I like the last version best. The photographer is more more isolated, alone in this frozen world. But both versions are simply great images.

I like both, but I prefer David's original. Perhaps because it was the first version that I saw, but I do think the rocks add something.

What a remarkable image! Wonderful stuff. Reminds me of my trip to Antarctica where we were always first on and last off the boats. Amazing composition and negative space :)
