Title: What happens if I merge two catalogs that have some master files in common?
Post by: AFairley on December 14, 2014, 10:59:01 am
(The master images are the same physical files in the same location.). How does LR handle the case where the master images have the same metadata and adjustments in both catalogues? If they have different adjustments?

It should compare  each image individually and update the one in the target (currently open) catalogue if the corresponding image in the imported catalogue has been updated more recently. Instead of updating, there is also an option to preserve settings as virtual copies.

Make a copy of the target catalogue and then do a test import from catalogue. The process is pretty smart, but people can fool it.
