Title: Amyryllis
Post by: William Walker on November 20, 2014, 08:04:19 am
Hi Everyone

I am trying something different here with both subject and process. I have avoided high contrast because I liked the soft greys. I am thinking of a series of three pictures as the plant progresses (these are the first two) - what do you think?

Thanks
William

I like the idea and I like your processing: it has a gentle, soft feel. Two gripes: if you're doing a series, the framing should, I think, be the same in each shot; and I don't like the shadow in the background.

I like the tonalities, but I agree with all of Jeremy's points.

Nicely done. The shadows would only bother me if they didn't work in the final presentation. That includes the frame, mat, and how far apart each image is. One option is to composite all three images into one image.

Great idea Lou! That will be my focus now.

Jeremy: the framing is a cock-up! I caught myself out with that by placing the flower too much to the right, not realising that it would open up like it did! I had to push the flower more to the centre with the next shot the following day. Lou's suggestion solves that problem nicely and I was concerned about large expanses of grey - a composite solves that problem too!

Now you know why I don't do too much without running it past you guys!
Thanks
