I went overboard stupid with new computer, (SSD238 GB and SSD 75 GB scratch disc and 4 TB HD storage, Intel TMi 7-479 chip,
all assembled by a geek son) and now I want an additional 4K monitor to join my current, at the suggestion of
The Digital Dog, NEC MultiSync PA 271w ...spending over 1 K is out of the question. What suggest you all?

There's an excellent NEC EA244UHD with PA-series DNA, which can be hardware calibrated by SpectraView II software.

At the moment you can have 4K at reasonable price, and you can have good at reasonable price. But not both at the same time. Wait. Prices will come down.

If you can afford it at all, go for a good quality monitor a la NEC PA. To do otherwise is a bit like you've built a world class stereo and will be playing it through $50 speakers.
When I finally made the jump to a professional class monitor and calibration system, it made way more difference in my ability to control my work than did the computer I built which is very much like what you've done.

The LG has a great price, is 4k but apparently no on board video card. Also, dell has less expensive 4K options, but I still prefer the NEC also.

There are quite a few cheap 4k 28" monitors ($500-700 range), a google search will find them. Asus, Dell, Samsung, Monoprice. Just make sure that it can run full res at 60Hz, some of them will only go to 30Hz unless using DP 1.2. Not sure which video card you've used so check for compatibility. I think I would use reviews from buyers (eg Amazon, Newegg) and discussion at some of the PC hardware forums for inputs.
I'll be interested in what you get. I was thinking of going for a 32" 4k to replace my 30 NEC but decided against it for now. A smaller 4k to replace my 24" Dell companion may be a better way to present super high quality slide shows to friends and the odd customer.
