Title: Editing TIFFs
Post by: Chrisso26 on October 15, 2014, 10:38:59 pm
Is there any downside to editing TIFFs in CO8? Or things to avoid?
I've always used CO for raw, but I recently bought a Sigma DP2. Yeah, yeah, yeah. ;D
I'm actually finding ProPhoto6 easy to use and quite efficient, but after Sigma PP6 processing there are still a few things I'd like to adjust in Capture One.

Hi,

Many (most) adjustments in any Rawconverter are basically post-processing steps based on image data after Raw conversion. Some operations should (for better results) be done on Raw data, such as e.g. color balance, highlight recovery, basic CA correction, some parts of noise reduction, demosaicing/color reconstruction, but could be done (less successful) on pre-cooked RGB converted data, such as in most TIFFs.

So it doesn't matter much if that same data is first saved to a TIFF and then reread before further processing. Only those operations that really require Raw data for the best results are better done with Raws, for the rest of them it makes little difference.

Cheers,
Bart
