I have been approached by a company wishing to use some of my images in a calendar. I'm probably one of thousands but I have no idea of what the rate should be. I've only sold prints or licensed an image for publication in short run print before. Before I reply with the obvious question of how many they will print, I'd like to ask for advice here.

Hi,
Used to be about $100.00 per image use a few years ago for postcards and calendars was a going rate. I contributed to Impact out of California and there is a Canadian firm as well.
Good luck

Thanks Ashley. I'll take a look at it.

Thanks Bill. $100 is about the going rate for small print runs in newsletters that I have used before.

So many of these kinds of requests say they'd like to use, not "pay for" the images. Unless the company is a publisher or other known user of images I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a reply to the $100/per mentioned here.

They are a publisher. I have responded and will wait and see what eventuates, and I'm certainly not holding my breath.

If your images are unique, hold out for more. A few years back after our first "raise" in decades, our main calendar publisher cut the rates to half and then wanted us to jump through more hoops. We told them to take a hike until they got reasonable and haven't looked back. It's no longer worth the agony and aggravation they started to create.

Thanks Larry. It's a way off apparently but I hear you loud and clear.
