I think I've sometimes heard my own printer muttering something like "Resistance is futile..."

Decades ago when Xerox machines were even much worse than the printers we used to think they had an inner sense for particularly hostile users and systematically jammed-up, ran out of toner or the electronics went haywire just when they needed the copies pronto.
