Title: Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM vs Nikon 58mm 1.4? Which opne to get?
Post by: haring on September 04, 2014, 09:45:36 am
I am thinking about buying a new 50mm lens for my wedding photography lens collection.

Which one do you think it is better? The sigma or the Nikon? Sigma is cheaper and has amazing reviews....!!! It is hard to pay more for the Nikon....

I'd venture to say that if you are buying on specs, Sigma is a better choice. If, however, you are buying on looks, Nikon should be. By looks I mean how a lens renders an image, bokeh, smooth transitions, etc. As Nikon is specifically designed to deliver that.

Tough choice. Sigma is razor sharp all over already at full open, Nikkor is soft in corners but produces nice out-of-focus effects, bokeh, if you will. I could choose either one, I took the Sigma.

I use one of these Sigma's for a lot of my portraiture ... Better than any Canon 50 including the 1.2 L.

The Sigma Art is an excellent lens for the price point.  The results I have seen from it are most impressive.  I am hoping that the soon to be released Sigma 24mm 1.4 Art will have the same degree of quality.

On the Nikon 58mm, there are many how seem to prefer the bokeh of this lens, which they claim is very unique.
