I know this type picture would be more at home in the "Landscape & Nature" thread, but I was wondering whether you thought there may be some artistic value in this...
What makes me ask the question is the various shades of the background which I find very pleasant on the eye.
I would love to hear your thoughts.

Yes, the background shows smooth curves and the vulture seems to fly along those lines and this is very nice.
I also like how the head of the bird is turned sideways.
Well done.

I think this image would be at home anywhere. It isn't immediately obvious where the bird is looking but a closer look means it becomes obvious. Was it looking to crap on you? Well done. ;) :)

If you look really close up - I don't think it will show up here - you will see that its head is actually covered in blood. There is also some blood on its shoulder...

I finally was able to get it to come up. It's grand shot, William. I agree with you about the background colors.

It is a wonderful capture William.
The background most definitely adds to the shot.
My only real observation is this.
Have you tried any different crops?
IMHO the are to the left of and above the bird is somewhat redundant.
However how you might go about this will give very different results.
My thoughts tend toward a slightly panoramic final result.
Whether that would improve an already fine image remains to be seen.

The real purpose of my visit to Giant's Castle was to get pictures of the the endangered (in Southern Africa) Bearded Vulture. This is a sub-adult.

You are right! I won't even argue that fact. I have the Canon 5D MK3 and the A1 Servo auto focus is unbelievable! I am not joking when I tell you that the "out-of-focus" ratio in a ten-burst shot is ...maybe 1!

William the detail in the last two are spot on. You have obviously processed them well but the capture had to be good. What focal length?

Great shots, I have photographed a few birds and the ones in flight are the stunners in my opinion.
You have nailed it in these shots.
