Title: I screwed up...again
Post by: wmchauncey on July 05, 2014, 06:48:19 am
It's becoming more frequent...maybe an age thing combined with the diming bulb syndrome.  :-[

My camera was gone for two weeks...KelbyOne had a sale price that I fell for...nuff said.
It is unquestionably, one of the worse decisions I've made in recent years!
To list the inadequacies  would take more time that the site even deserves...avoid it like a plague!  >:(

Aah...KelbyOne.com
Just for curiosity, what did you plunk down money for? Was it a course, a book, a camera?

My sympathy.

If you search the LuLa forum for "Kelby" or "Kelby training" I'm sure you will find lots of uncomplimentary comments.

Most of what I know about Photoshop and Lightroom I learned from LuLa videos and/or Jeff Schewe's books.

Sometimes there is some feature of PS or LR that I can't easily find ou about and a Google search usually turns up a bunch of free, short videos or tutorials on the desired topic.

I have also a few times bought short-term inexpensive memberships in Lynda.com, which has excellent tutorial videos on a huge number of topics in photography, business, and whatever.

Better luck next time!

Eric

I have used Lynda.com and concur that it is excellent training on a variety of subjects.

+1

Lynda.com is all about training, not about the trainer.

Cheers,
Bart

I should add a personal disclaimer about my recommendation of Lynda.com. I may be a bit biased, because they approached me a couple of years ago to use one of my photographs in a documentary film about Jerry Uelsmann and Maggie Taylor. They paid my initial fee promptly, and they have come back twice to request additional rights, for which they have paid promptly. So they seem like a very ethical and honorable outfit to do business with.

Cool...I didn't know that! I really liked that video (I know the director as well as Jerry & Maggie) so I really enjoyed seeing it. Where in the vid is your image (sad to say, I don't remember any of the credits).

My one second of fame occurs when it is mentioned that Jerry studied with Minor White. My photo is a very informal portrait of Minor that I took during my first workshop with him in 1966.

Someone at Lynda must have done a web search for photos of Minor and found this one on my website. Instead of ripping me off (as is common these days), they wrote inquiring about licensing it, and it was all very amicable.

It was Minor who first showed me Jerry's work and I've been a fan ever since.

My photo of Minor is the second one down on this page on my website: http://myrvaagnes.com/aboutme.php (http://myrvaagnes.com/aboutme.php)
