Title: Oz-Kimberley Video
Post by: Christopher Sanderson on June 14, 2014, 07:22:46 pm
I have published a half hour video (https://shop.platformpurple.com/product/?shop=2083&product=36698) on the trip to the remote Kimberley coastline in Western Australia.

It should appear in subscribers' accounts late Monday.

This is a fun one with crocs and rock art and wild Oz landscapes!

Chris,
The Oz-Kimberley Video is not showing up in my LL LaunchPad; I refreshed own products and it still does not show up.

Hi - sorry to be so long without replying. I am on the road in the Sierra with little or no Internet access.

If the problem persists, please contact the folk at Purple through their help system. (http://platformpurple.com/help/)

Chris

I did contact Purple through the link and was directed on what to do.
Here are the steps for anyone else that may experience a video not showing up for them:

1. Go to: https://player.platformpurple.com/#
2. Check to see if the course is listed on the page
3. If the course is listed, click "Add to devices" on the course, and then refresh the desktop player.

Hi Chris,

the Palouse and the Leica M videos were downloadable as mp4 files, for the Kimberley video I just see the download link for the purple video.

How can I download the mp4 video? Please don't respond with an explanation how to download the purple player, I am not able to install and use it.

Best regards

Bernd

If you purchased the video as a standalone, there should be a link in your email receipt.

I have asked Purple to respond here

Hi Chris,

unfortunately not. There is just a link called "Click here to access your content" which is leading to their standard page to download the player:

Dear Chris and Grace,

that is the response i have received from Purple on my customer support request:

"Hi Hans,

Sorry for the trouble you are experiencing!

The digital downloads will only play using the player program. They will also download using the player.

Regards,
Zell"

What is correct? Is the Kimberley video available as mp4 file?

Grace: On which eMail address can I forward my receipt to you?

Best regards

Bernd

I thought you guys were ditching the HORRIBLE purple player mess a long while ago, the last time all this was brought up?

Incorrect - it is certainly available as a download with the regular link in the emailed receipt.

However it appears that the bitrate of the file is too large to reliably stream. It is being re-encoded.

But if you want a really good quality file, download it now before it is changed!!

Hi Chris,

just started the download of the ZIP file (2.24 GB). The issue was that this text "We highly recommend installing the free player to enjoy the benefits of a chapter menu, continuous playback of chapters, mobile sync, background downloading, streaming and many other features. To download apps for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android, click the button above. If you would prefer to download the basic movie files, click below:" is printed - together with the download link - so small in the eMail receipt that my mail reader on the computer did not show it at all!!

A few minutes ago, I replicated my eMails on my iPhone, saw the text and enlarged the whole text in the mail reader of my computer .....

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Best regards

Bernd

...just started the download of the ZIP file (2.24 GB)...

That file somehow got to be waaay too big. It should be about 25% of that. It is being changed.

We have had technical glitches with the Kimberley video and have now replaced it.

If you have downloaded it and have no problems, do nothing!

However, if you tried to download or stream and gave up because it
appeared not to play or took too long to download, you may want to try
streaming again or download the newer smaller file.

(Basically I messed up by uploading a video whose bitrate was
oversized by a factor of 10!!)

My apologies

Chris

We have decided to make this video free to all and are refunding purchasers.

This is so the video can be used for promotion of the LuLa 2015 Kimberley Photo Adventure.  (http://rockhopperworkshops.com/workshop/the-kimberley/)

Now that the video is embedded in its own web-page (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/kimberley_video_now_free.shtml), I would be interested in comments on the two players shown: Vimeo  (https://vimeo.com/100146067)& Viddler (http://www.viddler.com/v/81e6bae3).

We are testing Viddler (http://www.viddler.com/v/81e6bae3) as a delivery method.

Be sure to enable HD for better quality.

Vimeo works fine but I get a "Video forbidden" message on Viddler…

Hmmm - looks like Viddler has expired or they don't want us. Sorry about that.

I will try to re-instate later today

On again, off again - grrrrr

Viddler played for a few minutes, then gave me a "Video Forbidden" message, too.

I saw little to differentiate the two streams, other than the Viddler appeared a tad more contrasty.  I didn't view them full screen, due to bandwidth limitations here.

Viddler worked yesterday but the quality (in HD) was abysmal with large compression artefacts. I tried on two Macs with the same results. I immediately tried on Vimeo and everything was smooth, perfect.
Today, Viddler gave me the "Video forbidden" message again.    ???

To me Vimeo appears with better quality than vidderly. I looked at the video with HD on and at a 24" Eizo SX2461W screen.
As usually I appreciate looking in to your website. :)

I am a long time subscriber to LuLa videos and I've spent hundreds of dollars, but the Purple Brain experience is just awful. Previously just download the video, now junk-ware on my computer and endless loops of brain dead software trying to fix itself. Not a good customer experience. I love your videos but my time is more important.

:(

THERE ISN'T EVEN AN UNINSTALL OPTION. This is SPAM and CRAP WARE avoid at all costs!

If you contact the help available through Purple, they will guide you through the de-installation.

There is also the option to download the 'basic' mp4 file which can be stored and played in the same way as videos from the legacy store.  Look for the link in your e-mailed receipt.

Hi Chris

Just watched the feed from Vimeo and Viddler.
I thought the feed from Vimeo was clearer and smoother
than the Viddler feed.
Viddler had some artifacting that wasn't apparent in the
Vimeo feed.
Was watching both at full screen.
Nice scenery
