Not sure if there is enough contrasting light here for a good B&W image.

I think there is - it looks good to me. It might look better with slightly darker shadows, but I'm nitpicking.

In terms of composition, shadows on the ground deserve a bit more space. If not other shots from the scene, then at least cropping the top out on this one to 8x10 proportion might help.
