Title: SOLD Imacon Flextight Precision III film scanner SOLD
Post by: gdh on May 18, 2014, 01:23:00 pm
Imacon Flextight Precision III - film scanner SCSI interface--Included is a Mac G4 (that I have dedicated solely for this scanner) that has the last Imacon/Hasselblad update for software for the SCSI model. If you have a computer that has a SCSI interface you don't need the G4.  I have an Adaptec 2906 SCSI Card installed to add SCSI to the G4. This does great scans and easy to use.  It's about 13 years old, cost $10k when new and used infrequently, since not long after getting this I went to digital and use rapidly declined.

I've used it less and over the last few years to scan my 4x5 negatives and transparencies, but it comes with, the original dust cover, cover plate,  all of the film holders it came with originally and then some--TRANSPARENCIES:4x5, 57x88(120 film long frame), 57x70, 57x70 (double 120 square format), 35x24 and 24x35 (35mm vertical and horizontal same holder) and REFLECTIVE: A4 or letter size.  This is EXCELLENT CONDITION as is the G4.

I have the original shipping box for the scanner and for the G4, so can be shipped safely. At one point they had a converter interface from SCSI to Firewire but I never felt the need to do that--I don't know if they are still available.  If there is still a converter interface between SCSI to Firewire, then almost any Mac could be used and more updated software downloaded used, although you'd have to check the Hasselblad/Imacon website.

Here are all the specs from an old on line review I found, but again, this is only scsi--not firewire This makes great scans, fast and easy to use. If I was still shooting film or was printing from my film archives more, I wouldn't be selling it.

The film holders are selling on ebay depending on size from $70 to $90.  Ebay now has 3 Imacon Flextight Precision III. 1 is really poor shape no film holders and no power brick with admittedly screws missing for $1700; the second is the same Imacon Flextight III film scanner with holders that appears in good shape for $3995., and it is firewire. There is a new posting on eBay with this scanner for $3250 with one less film holder but appears to be in very good shape also--from Canada--I'm $1000 less :)

I'm estimating shipping at about $75 for the scanner to the lower 48. I'm in Redding Ca.

2 more images.  the plastic dust cover is what it's always been kept under when not in use.  Not a Scratch on it. Has all parts, nothing missing.

Hey there,

Can you tell me some basic info. Any idea how many scans have gone through this? Also, how big are the resulting files? Can you manipulate the raw scans in preview mode? Are the finished scans compatible in photoshop?

I'm interested, but wondering if 1) you would pay for shipping to New Mexico at the price listed? And 2) would you take a deposit to hold it? I'm waiting for the check to arrive on a camera body I just sold. Thanks a lot.

Can you tell me some basic info. Any idea how many scans have gone through this?

REPLY:  I purchased new so am the only one who has used.  My best estimate is far less than 100.

Also, how big are the resulting files?
REPLY:  Depending on film size of course, but my files from 4x5 transparencies/negatives are about 420-450MB at maximum resolution.

Can you manipulate the raw scans in preview mode?
REPLY:  Yes, there basically all of the pre-processing adjustments that you perform in the "Preview" mode and actually see in real time the results of your manipulations.  For instance there is exposure (darker/lighter), saturation, contrast, Gama, levels, curves, etc. If unhappy, can reset and start again--all while in preview mode.  When you get it just as you like it, then you push the SCAN radio button on screen and it takes about 15 minutes for a high (maximum) resolution scan of a 4x5 film.

Are the finished scans compatible in photoshop?
REPLY:  YES!  You can have them open automatically in photoshop if desired or open as a raw file and then move to photoshop for post processing.

I'm interested, but wondering if 1) you would pay for shipping to New Mexico at the price listed?
REPLY:  yes but not shipping and paypal.  If you want to use paypal, I'll pay for shipping ans yo pay PP 3%

And 2) would you take a deposit to hold it?

REPLY:  Yes, a $300 non refundable deposit and I'll hold it.  Otherwise first come first serve.  I have one person in Spain interested and another from the Northern California Bay area--whoever gets deposit or actually buys first gets it--it's only fair.

I'm waiting for the check to arrive on a camera body I just sold. Thanks a lot.
REPLY:   thank you for reading and checking.  This makes excellent scans--as good as I've seen from any of the professional houses I've used since I stopped doing my own scanning due to time constraints.

I've bought a few things from Dennis over the years and all has been perfect as advertised or better.
