Title: Parisian Sky II
Post by: Slobodan Blagojevic on May 12, 2014, 08:53:21 pm
Noticed a lot of people do not like the tilt, so here is the one without it. The trouble is, the sky (and boats) changes quite fast at sunset, so it is never the same.

Were these sky pix all on the same day, or did you have a streak of many great sky days?
I think you had a pretty good time there.

FWIW, I always had great skies in Paris - except in summer. I guess it's because the ocean is not that far and nothing blocks the clouds.

The Louvre shot was taken the day before other shots, so yes, those were two nice mid-August days in Paris I had.

Forgot to add, the price you pay for such sunset skies is intermittent raining during the day, from summer downpours to wintry drizzle - that is where those clouds come from. Then again, you have a chance to do rainy photography (with apologies to older members who might remember this one, done during the same day as the sunset ones):

It seems fitting that you would do a nice Impressionist scene while in Paris.  ;)

A forum member asked me if it was a single shot or a combination of multiple shots.

It was a single photo. I actually have a bracketed sequence, but decided to use just one of the three, the one that was most underexposed. The reason being that, at such a low light level, the exposure for the other two, the normally exposed and +1, was too slow, so the boat is not sharp, and I even had a camera shake in the +1. The price to pay for using the underexposed one is the noise in the shadows, but it is amazing how good the software - LR - is these days (four years after I took the shot).

If I decide to print it big, however, I might try combining it with the normally exposed shot, for better details in the buildings.
