Title: problems with "save for web"
Post by: wmchauncey on April 28, 2014, 08:00:33 pm
Two images...the first one is a sRGB screen-shot while in PS CC, then saved to desktop...The second one was a "saved for web" and deposited to my desktop.
No adjustments were made to either of the two images with the exception of the "save for web" feature applied to the second image.

As I said, both of the above images are screen-shots taken from within PS CC after pulling them both back into PS from my desktop without color management applied.
What might be causing this severe color shift???

Be useful to post both for download to examine.

The second image colour cast looks like the effect you would get when bringing an sRGB tagged image into PS where your working space is ProPhoto and you have elected to not apply colour management to the document.

Attachment demonstrates this original sRGB in first image displayed correctly.  The second image brought into PS ignoring colour management (PS working space ProPhoto)

The issue was he was setting Save for Web as sRGB but not embedding the profile. So when it opened, it wasn't assuming sRGB and didn't look correct. When I assigned sRGB to the image run though SFW, it matched the other image (in ProPhoto) perfectly.

Trying to explain the depths of my embarrassment would be an exercise in futility...best to just stop digging and accept my lumps.  Thank you Rodney!    ;)

Nothing to be embarrassed about! SFW could be a bit more user friendly in that respect. But you might want to check your color settings as if you had the Missing Profile warning on, you'd have seen this image was untagged upon opening.
