Title: ? Web Gallery Hosting Service ?
Post by: Kit-V on March 09, 2014, 10:55:21 am
Admittedly, I am coming out from under a flat rock on this issue. But I have to start some where. Currently I am developing web galleries in the Lightroom 5 Web Module & sharing them with friends via the public folder in my Dropbox account.

However, I am starting to see the advantage of putting together a website containing several web galleries. Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with any of the online hosting services.

For those of you who have established your own website of image galleries, I would appreciate a few recommendations regarding hosting services.

Thank you kindly.

The only one I know about is zenfolio.com which I use (philipflower.zenfolio.com).  It is pretty easy even for someone as completely adverse and unversed in any form of programming to set up and it is also cheap and looks OK to my mind.  There must be lots of others but the customer support from zenfolio has also been very good as I struggled to understand why certain things that I wanted to do didn't work.

I have just set up a website using Zenfolio. I knew nothing about the subject before I started out, but their customer support for advice on how to set the site up is, in my opinion, second to non. They also have a range of tutorials to help in that respect. Worth a look, if nothing else.

It really depends on how much you want to learn (and of course the associated time spent learning).  I built my site from ground up using Dreamweaver and GoDaddy was the cheap way to go in terms of hosting.  I think the ones previously mentioned provide lots of tools to help you build a site but I don't know what the cost is.  I was able to learn HTML/CSS and a bunch of other stuff which was fun.  When you build it yourself you are not limited in terms of configuration.
