Title: Great Blue
Post by: RSL on January 28, 2014, 11:06:11 am
Normally I don't shoot birds unless they're on the wing, but I couldn't resist this guy.

Nice one. The tree and branch frame the bird nicely, and the reflection is a fine extra.

I like the shot, but also believe a square crop including the framing branches would make it stronger.
Cheers

Ah, but Russ won't crop it because he wasn't carrying a square-format camera at the time.   ;)

Thanks all. No, Eric, I wouldn't crop it because I think the 3/2 aspect ratio is more appropriate for a picture along a river bank where a river runs through it. Square would be too static. Also, I'd hate to lose some of the varicolored vegetation on the left. But, of course, that's a personal opinion. Anybody who wants it square can crop away.
