#2 works well and this is the sort of composition I would go for... you are right on top of the foreground element.
#1 is nice, but could be improved by moving right in to the top of the ladder... this would invite the viewer right into that cold water, rather than onto the jetty.
#3 your point of view needs to be lower and more intimate with the leading lines. I want to see details in the wood!!
Overall, some nice images, but definitely worth waiting for dramatic light.

Many thanks for the suggestions. I composed #1 back from the ladder because I especially liked the detail in the wood in that case.

#1 I would have either shot it so the ladder and fence either side were the only objects in focus OR just the ladder with the background and a little of the jetty in the foreground - i like the blue light.
#2 ur on the jetty - I may have tried lower
#3 - nice colours - would have got closer so the viewer knew what the subject of the photo was..
just my tuppence worth, it's good to explore ideas on composition and hear what others think :-)

Scott - I don't think any of these are strong - the subject elements...especially first and last...there is nothing about the wooden baluster or the small boat dock that is special...although the color/tone is nice in some. I think they have to work together. A note about image with the walkway and the range of bldgs. in bg. the vertical is shifting toward the left side of frame...and a little on the right?? It was like one was using a TS lens and had the settings not zeroed in. Also, for image like this...diff. vantage point "could be" helpful. /B

Since taking these I am trying to work more on each subject. Get a good shot and then look for some more.
I should have known, Brandt, that if I straightened 2/3 images, you would notice the single unstraightened one. It does look better with the distortions removed.
Also interesting to me is that #1 is among the more-viewed images on Flickr, but gets the fewest views here. All grist to the mill.
