Title: Which one, or are they both poor?
Post by: KMRennie on December 22, 2013, 06:02:23 pm
I have been working on this image for too long and now can't decide on the final rendering. I think that I prefer the lower contrast vesion but it has no real blacks or whites so I have produced a higher contrast version  using a curves layer. So which one or bin both? All thoughts welcome. The image was shot in St Ives Bay in Cornwall England in September this year.

The first may be closer to the way you remember the scene, but to me the second is more convincing. The additional contrast makes the foam on the breakers come alive better.

I agree with Eric. Higher contrast also makes the foreground breakers seem more parallel to the horizon, providing some unity.

Personally, I prefer the higher contrast image, but I have to say the island does not hold a lot of interest for me. I do like the colors though.

Of the two I also prefer the second.

I'm more attracted by the colors from the first

I'd print both. I'm betting the higher contrast version will have too much contrast. Then, again, contrast sells.

Maybe #2. don't go crazy over it.

Or maybe try something in between #1 and #2.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I may merge aspects of both. Ken

On a laptop monitor, I really prefer #1, but this screen might be too contrasty to begin with.
