Which reduces the risk of dust attaching to the camera sensor when changing the lens?

For many years now, it makes no difference.

Agreed. the dust does not really care whether the camera is on, off, etc. Why on earth would it?

"a ‘live’ sensor creates an electric charge that attracts back the dust you’re attempting to remove (http://cameraquest.com/Epson-R-D1/_r-d1/r-d1_15.htm)"

otoh -- "Don't sweat about changing lenses. Most of the dust inside your camera would have made it in even if you never changed a lens. (http://www.prime-junta.net/pont/How_to/a_Brush_Your_Sensor/a_Brush_Your_Sensor.html) And it really doesn't matter which way up you hold your camera: the time the lens is off the camera is much too short for dust to have time to float down with gravity."

So which of these authorities is the ultimate authority?

As I said, for years now it makes no difference.  Cameras these days use CMOS sensors, not CCD - they are not 'live' unless taking a photo.  A total non-issue.

Thank you for saying why it makes no difference now.
