Don't know what the so called "error" was but this is the most creative image I've seen in a long time. so what's the secret!! really…no kidding. I'd hang this on my wall…..Eleanor

Would have been fun to see all the silly bashing if the camera was revealed - but daddy took away all the exif .... :P

Is this in fact a photograph taken by Rob Ford?

Good one!

I would almost be tempted to sacrifice a camera to get a shot like this. Wonderful!

If not I'll bet that's what the woods look like to Ford in one of his more enhanced states. Assuming he ever goes anywhere near the woods.
Love the photo!

I'm in agreement with others, its a wonderful artistic error. I've just been staring at for the last 5 minutes or so (and keep coming back to it).

A dead ringer for the Sony RX100 ll watercolor effect .... I've been toying with it, quite a bit, lately!

May be an error, but if you can make a Lightroom preset to match, that would be great!!
Mike.

Not an error at all; a prescient take on the ultimate fate of this plastic-bag age.
The machine speaks to warn.

Wonderful image!
Almost reminds me of a east asian ink painting.
Too bad one can't reproduce a camera error like this.

It's probably just me but I can't see a link to the picture in your post. I'm all agog to see it!

What a creative effect for this image, Michael! I love it!

Justin,
It's the current photo on the LuLa main page. http://www.luminous-landscape.com/index.shtml (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/index.shtml)

Thankee kindly. My bookmark takes me straight to the forum so I don't always see the home page.

When first I saw this image, I thought that Michael had been experimenting with the Topaz plug-in "Simplify". The results appear nearly identical to my experience with this tool.
-
I never use in-camera effects. I also never use Photoshop style effects or plug-ins; or at least I haven't in years.
Clearly, in the process of losing its mind (which happened a few frames later) this particular camera fell into one of its art modes.
I like the picture, regardless.

In my opinion, it's one of the best home page photos in a long time, perhaps because it's an exceptionally good illustration of how semi-abstract semi-chaotic pictures also can have structure and simplicity that keeps me looking at it again and again.
It's bewitching.
Edit: I know what it reminds me of now. It reminds me of some of my attempts to slightly randomize the effects from Genuine Fractals. Remember that time, Michael, when upressing our images seemed like a sensible thing to do? :D

Me three (or eight — not sure the count). Very much.
-
Oh Irony!
I predict this will become a great selling print for you, Michael....particularly in October!

A-ha!! We've narrowed the field. After Michael's post, we now know it's a camera with art modes. Which one? --Barbara

After this I think I will start playing with Topaz Simplify again ... ;P

The problem is that if you use the art mode, then the camera self-destructs. :'(
-
I repeat. I did not, myself, use an art mode. The camera, as part of its self immolation art project, took this shot and then expired.
All I did was cradle it in my hands as it past away, following creation of its masterwork.
By publishing the image I am simply paying tribute to an entity that died for its art.

We know what you used - you have revealed yourself ....
Prepare for a shock - the truth about our long time forum host ... (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?topic=83954.msg678750#msg678750)

It wouldn't/shouldn't matter ............. As far as I'm concerned, it's just another brush in the box!

Try Oil Paint in Photoshop with low shine (.2 or so) and play with other settings. You can get very close I think. YMMV

Where do old front page images go? I don't see any way to find them ... or is that deliberate?

I just caught up with a review of functions available on the A7/A7r...............hmmmmmmmm.
