Title: Anyone else having problems on Win-7 with ColorPort after i1Profiler 1.5 update?
Post by: l_d_allan on October 26, 2013, 07:29:08 pm
IF you are on a Mac and also use ColorPort, this new version will cause CP to crash thanks to the XRD protocol. There should be a separate download/fix for this. You want XRD 2.3.1.3 and you install this AFTER the update otherwise it will install the older XRD build.

The above older reply mentions problems using ColorPort on a Mac.

This Win-7 user is experiencing flakiness using ColorPort 2.0.5. Could be operator error, but ????

After doing the update, ColorPort occasionally hangs when doing a scan on my iSis. Perhaps every third scan?

If I've got a number of charts to scan, I've gotten to where my "hold-your-nose work-around" is to do a pre-emptive reboot prior to doing the profile scans. Then the hangs seem to be "only" about every fifth scan. Annoying.

About every 20th scan or so, I'll get a message: "i1PC.bin has stopped working". CP seems to keep working, but you can't save the scanned values. Drat. Don't you love intermittent problems?

Prior to the i1Profiler update, I don't recall this ever happening. CP was pretty much as reliable as dirt. You clicked the (totally non-standard) "i" button that looked like "Info", the paper was grabbed by the iSis from the front input "feed slot", the scan was done a minute or so later, and the paper was pushed back out the feed slot. No fuss, no muss. Next.

Gosh, I wish ArgyllCms could control an iSis. I've been Very Impressed by ColProf, but my workflow requires ColorPort.

I'll try the XRD update workaround mentioned by Andrew. If I thought it would do any good, I'll report to X-Rite. OK. Reported. Sigh.

Here's the direct link to the XRD stand-alone utility:

Note that there is an update labeled 2.3.2 for the Mac that was just released this week (2013-Oct-23), but the latest XRD update for Windows is labeled 2.3.1. and released in July, 2013.
BTW, is there a way to check the version number of XRD?

I1profiler is also stopping after profiling several papers. I usually exit and restart after 5 or so.

Installing the standalone XRD 2.3.1 download for Windows 7 after the i1Profiler 1.5.0 update doesn't seem to have made any difference. ColorPort 2.0.5 still flaky. Hangs intermittently.

More flakiness. Just had MeasureTool 5.0.10 from ProfileMaker 5.0 crash. Not hang, but crash. Up until my ill-advised update to 1.5.0, it had been very stable. Sigh.

I've got another partition on the same computer with the older i1Profiler 1.4.1. I did about 20+ chart scans with the i1iSis with no hangs.

Hopefully, I can uninstall i1Profiler, and then re-install ver 1.4.1.

Grumble, grumble, grumble. Based on my experience with X-Rite software, I have low confidence that i1Profiler will uninstall cleanly, and the re-installed 1.4.1 "bundle" (including ColorPort and MeasureTool) will be as stable as it was before.

From my experience X-rite hasn't made any good software so far, apart from Prism engine that is.
I'd try some tools like Revo Uninstaller Pro to watch installation then unistall, you might need to clean registry manually too.

FWIW: Here's a screenshot from Microsoft's APPCRASH when MeasureTool crashed. I've opened a "Case" with X-Rite.
