Title: Who did you buy your Epson printer from?
Post by: Benny Profane on October 22, 2013, 07:00:23 pm
Does it matter? I assume prices are pretty similar.

I imagine one should be home with friends who can handle heavy stuff at the time of delivery. What else?

I bought my 3880 from a local supplier in Sydney. I paid around Au$800 more than I would have if I bought it from B&H US. Prices are not equal for all people and having shopped at B&H sometimes you can't buy the cheaper product due to producer requirements. Replacement cartridges are equally expensive in Australia.

Cheers,

In what country and what particular Epson printer? 13", 17", 24", 44", 60"? Aqueous, Solvent?

I didn't both of mine are Canon. One came directly from Canon and the other was bought from a local store on sale. I did buy an Epson once. It had "durabrite" inks that clogged constantly and looked flat and dull when printed. It wasn't anything like what they make now. I gave up on it.

At the moment, the Epson 9900 is on a national back order with Epson.  The 7900 is available.  You're looking at about 200-350lbs between these 2 models, so having someone available to help move is definitely an option, unless you have a dolly with other ways to move.

You need a minimum of three people for the 9900 if you don't have to move it up a flight of stairs. After putting the stand together, two people to lift it up, and one person underneath to position it on the stand. You may be able to get away with two people for the 7900.

I bought my 9890 from John Ferriola at Shades Of Paper in New Jersey. Excellent pre/post sales service and support - highly recommended.

I can tell you who NOT to buy a printer from...Adorama.

Took them a week to process the order, then 3 weeks shipping with MANNA distribution before i cancelled due to the sheer incompetency of these people.

First delivery date missed and was told actually the item was missing and there was ZERO chance it would have been delivered - no email, no phone call, no nothing.

After they discovered the item was still in the departure depot in NJ, they gave a second delivery date a week later. Delivery date arrives and again missed - no email, no phone call. At this point i cancelled the order and couldn't be bothered speaking with MANNA again, but it was funny to hear them phone me back 48hrs later to try and arrange a 3rd delivery.

Contacted adorama who told me I would have to wait until the incompetent clowns returned the item before refund processed - not my problem as far as i was concerned. AMEX chargeback. Goodby adorama forever. I purchase $30k of media and ink per year and they just lost a HUGE customer.

I repeat for the sanity of anyone reading this - do not use ADORAMA or BHphoto who both use MANNA.

Switched back to DTGweb from whom I've purchased 3 epson wide formats in the passed - order processed and delivered in 5 business days with liftgate thrown in. Would have ordered from them in 1st place but under impression they had no 4900s available.

Ebay x3--7600 (two-man pack), 9800--two man pack, 9900--4 pall bearers, all down the steps from my 4Runner.
4000 and 3880 came from dealers, one I picked up (took two to lift into the truck) and the 3880 via one-person UPS or FedEx delivery person.

Smaller (4x00 series) takes two to lift from the box to stand or desk; 3xxx series one larger person.

I bought my Epson 3880 from B&H.  As usual, a perfectly delightful experience.  No surprises.

my 3880 came from Hunts photo in Boston Ma via UPS. If I was to buy a big one like a 7900 or 9900 I would buy it from the local dealer that can service it. B&H is good for many things but things that come on a freight truck should be handled by local dealers IMHO.

John Ferriola at Shades of Paper is an excellent source of printers, and canvas, and papers, even if you are on the other side of the country.  When a large printer needs service, it is the manufacturer's contractor who will do it, not your local supplier.  John also stays in touch to make sure all is going well, and to help straighten things out if they're not.  He will get in touch with a manufacturer's rep, or put you in touch with the rep, for arcane questions that sometimes occur.  Service couldn't be better.  --Barbara

Bought my replacement 7900 from AtLex just a couple of months ago.  Great price, plus free shipping via UPS Freight.  As this was coming to a residential address, I needed lift-gate service and inside delivery to the garage.  The folks at AtLex arranged this with no problem and the printer was delivered on the day specified.  Needed two guys to lift the printer, carry it up four steps and place it on the stand.

I bought my 3880 from Adorama a couple of years ago.  Epson had rebates and Adorama had an additional discount on top.  No problems with delivery; but then again it was small enough that it came UPS (or was it FedEx) not a freight hauler.

I'd like to echo my recommendation for Shades of Paper. Talk to John Ferriola.

They have the best prices, really know their products, and have unbelievable customer service. Two major thumbs up.

What's their current price on the 3880?  The best offer I've found so far is $829 w/free delivery from B&H.

I have to put in a big plus  for Atlex.com
Purchased a 7900 and 9890 from them, best prices, free freight and great  follow up service! I don't even compare anyone else anymore and for the past 3 years have been purchasing all my consumables from them also.

They also have the 3880 for $1,129- free freight -and $300 rebate from Epson, brings it to $829 thru 11/30

Same price, but you get a real human being who can answer questions, and be your advocate should you need help down the road dealing with Epson.
