Title: Midnight in Skagafjörður
Post by: Rajan Parrikar on September 12, 2013, 10:40:45 pm
Scenes from a summers' midnight sun in Skagafjörður in north Iceland.  More images here (http://www.parrikar.com/blog/2013/09/13/midnight-in-skagafjordur/).  (The red of the truck cannot be accommodated within the sRGB gamut.)

Nice light. That red is like "Ferrari" red :)

Love these minimalist compositions!  A fresh approach that is not often taken in regards to Iceland's landscapes.

Paulo, Bullfrog, Matt - thank you for your comments.

Paulo - the 'red' is first killed when the image is converted from ProPhoto space to sRGB, and then again by the gamut-limited monitors.  I see that on the iPad it is rendered orange-y, and it is not much better on the MacBook Air screen either.  I haven't yet checked the Retina MacBook Pro.

Matt - it took me several years to see Iceland in a different light (pardon the pun).  Confronted with those wild landscapes, the temptation to molest the contrast and saturation sliders is high.

First one is nice but the second one is smashing!
