Title: Test setup evaporating
Post by: 32BT on July 03, 2013, 07:20:34 am
LOL, I was comparing the testfiles of the Nikon D800 vs the Canon 5D3 over at the imaging-resource, but the results seem to be skewed…!  ;)

Anybody know whether this could result from temperature differences, or is it actual evaporation?

If these are sealed glass bottles, evaporation is highly unlikely.  What is in the bottles, some type of oil or other foodstuff?  You don't give any indication of the time between shots.  I assume that these are tripod shots and if so, are you sure your tripod was unchanged between image capture?  Depending on the liquid, the type of temperature change that would be observed in a 'normal' room is unlikely to do anything major.  Could just be an optical issue.

These are shots from the imaging-resource website. Don't know how rigorous their test & shooting setup is, but I don't recall any negative comments in the past. Time-difference between the shots is about 1 week according to the dates. There is a slight POV offset, but to my perception that doesn't seem to account for the difference… (might still be optical illusion of course).

Expansion of the liquid due to temperature change could account for it.

Somebody did a really good job of recorking and resealing after taking a nip.   ;)

Well, duh… he certainly had enough comparison files to set it all back exactly as before.  8)

But water or milk wouldn't have matched color of the original fluid, which is probably much more expensive.   ;D

Just goes to show how volatile colour-management really can be!  :D
