I like how the dullness of the earth and the smooth contours of the land play off against the bright flatness of the water, but I'm not sure the sky needs to be there.  Without it the image becomes much more abstract.

Can only offer vague IMHO's.  It's an asymmetric "picture at an angle" and those don't usually work well.  But symmetry sells.  Images this abstract almost always work better when strong compositional balance is present.

I think there's too much sky but I'm not sure that all of it should go. It's an interesting image, though. I can enjoy looking at it.

FWIW, I like it with the sky as it is... Very nice image.

I love the earth tones and the smooth surfaces. They strike a very nice mood, for me. The very dark foreground seemed a bit oppressive relative to the rest of the image and the discussion about the amount of sky got me thinking about (ssshhhhhhhh!) cropping (he whispers). Picked a square 'cause that kinda goes with the peaceful mood. Forgive me. Don't know if it helps with Bill's compositional concerns or not.

Thanks for looking everyone, I really appreciate it. Losing the sky could be a good idea.

These undulations should be there after the next spring tide so I might go back and look at shooting something more abstract, but I won't crop this one- apart from the edges that I tidied up after levelling the horizon- it is what it is.
