Title: What Is A Crested Photo
Post by: Kevin Gallagher on May 21, 2013, 09:23:59 am
Hi all, I figured this was the best place to post this. A friend's daughter just graduated from med school and in the photo package choices from the graduation ceremony they mention "Crested 8x10" . I really haven't any idea what this means nor could I find anything on the 'net.

  Thanks, as always

Another example of Mac superiority ;): right-click on the word, choose Dictionary:

"2 emblazoned with a coat of arms or other emblem : crested notepaper." A quick search through online dictionaries did not find that meaning though.

I assume in your case it means the photo would have the school name/logo on it.

HEY!!  Hold on there, I AM using a Mac  :) I did the Google search and came up with a bunch of dog and bird pix that had the word crest in the breed or species :(  Thanks Slobodan!!

I didn't know you could do that either - and I've been using Mac for 13 years!

With the single-button mouse settings (I can't take more than a single mouse button after nearly 30 years), simply hold the "control" button while you click and you get all the options...

Me neither. Damn, another way to waste time.

Must not be a Mac mouse. More than one button just lacks Mac's simple elegance :)

It is one button. Mac is not only simply elegant, but awesomely smart too, and knows whether you pressed that one button with your left finger or your right finger. :P

Which is a alternative way of saying limited capability.  :P Or making easy things more complex in the case of a single button mouse and then having to use the keyboard  and second hand to perform a simple right click. Apple's 'simple' is all too often actually simplistic.
A mouse that disguises the fact that is in fact a multi-button mouse is no different from an actual multi button mouse and is just Apple's way of avoiding losing face by admitting that a single button mouse was in fact a really dumb idea.

Another example of this 'elegant simplicity' is the omission of cursor keys in iOS with the solution to their absence being far more complex, fiddly, slower and at times downright infuriating and difficult to use. Job's obsession with getting rid of buttons had him even try remove cursor keys from physical keyboards too, but thankfully he was dissuaded of that particularly dopey idea.

Thank god Jobs never designed cameras, as they would only have a single button for the shutter and all other controls would be buried in menus as adjustment dials and ergonomic buttons would make it less smooth. Not to mention you'd only get the choice of one form factor, one sensor size and one focal length because Apple would know better than you what to use for all possible scenarios.

Splitting hairs here but no it doesn't, it knows what side of the mouse you pushed. :P Besides like most people I do not have a have a left and right finger, having 8 in total ;D
Anyway I seem to recall that by default the Apple mouse is single button by default - you have to go to settings to make it usable. Magic Trackpad is the same, with the default settings make it crippled compared to how good it can be to use. And boy is it very, very fiddly to get it set up to its most useful settings.
Mind the default settings on all trackpads I've ever used are awful with the cursor usually taking the best part of an hour to transverse your monitor.
