Title: Interesting landscape photo free ebook
Post by: eronald on May 06, 2013, 07:05:41 am
Free ebook with landscape images
Picked this up from KR-the-clown's site:
Search fo "Simplifying Visualisation in this page (http://www.brucepercy.co.uk/pages/Misc/store_tech.html#composition-book)

Worth look at IMHO. As a writer I'd critique by saying that the text is disappointing, after that wonderful teasing title.
But the images sing.
Go against the author's wishes, and set your PDF reader to display ONE page at a time - the image :)
Maybe the author learnt visualisation in a Tibetan monastery and cannot explain how it's done.

Ok, so I didn't go to photography school.
When I go somewhere, visualizing an image to make does NOT come naturally. It's hard work.
In catwalk you fight your neighbour to setup in a decent place, and snap when the model hits the pose. In fashion you can prod someone eg. the stylist and they will often come up with some idea. Moving the lights around a bit sometimes gets the old brain ticking, too. If in doubt, go with the flow.
But in landscape it's just you and that big space with no obvious crop marks, and that big lamp with the broken remote.
Maybe the Phase 260 has ImaginView(tm) but I'm afraid Doug, Steve and Yair haven't sent me the right marketing materials ...
So I read books with pictures in them, often in bookshops, some on the net. Is that naive?

Thanks for a tip, I was able to check out and download without issue.

There are some great images, I haven't read the entire text yet but I've seen enough art related tutorials (not just photography, the same applies to music etc.) to know that while they may provide hints and inspiration, nobody can teach you art... and I agree with you - it's hard work, even though some of the greats almost make it look effortless!

I downloaded my copy earlier today, now I'm getting the same error. Hopefully it'll back to normal tomorrow.

There is no reason why people should even *know themselves* how they do it.
But sometimes looking at other people's process works, and this type of book allows you a glimpse of the process.
I find Bruce Percy's imagery repetitive as a whole, but still stunning individually,
The big Monet exhibition in Paris located something like 10 haystacks done in different light -
Stuck on a wall together in the inadequate lighting, they looked like the printed hotel wallpaper where you search in the dark areas for the parked mosquitoes, but examined on its own each turned out to be not a picture but ... an impressionistic master's working study of light diffusion and reflection.

It's slated to be called Imagin+ but it won't be ready at launch. Hopefully a firmware update ;D.

Thanks for that link, Edmund. Lovely imagery indeed - and all shot on 6x7 and 4x5 film, if my quick reading of the text is correct.

Depends how you parse it!

Interesting landscape photo | free ebook
Interesting landscape | photo free ebook

I agree, the latter would be rather pointless!  :D
