As mentioned, I was in San Francisco last week, condemned to shoot without a tripod and during non-photogenic hours (i.e., in broad and glaring daylight). So I slapped a polarizer and went hunting for strong graphical elements in architecture. The last one was at O'Hare, Chicago's airport, while riding a passenger conveyor belt.

Good shooting Slobodan. You demonstrated once again that midday light isn't "bad" light. It's just different light -- different from the light at dawn and dusk It all comes down to Gene Smith's dictum that "Available light is any $$@@#! light.

Thanks, Eric! We actually have something in common: your eye tends to look down (your asphalt series) looking for pattern, mine up. Though, truth to be told, my viewing angle is forced by the necessity to tilt my head while gulping a beer :).
You see, I called this series "Found Graphics," but perhaps the better way to describe it is that those graphics found me. I'd be sitting in a sidewalk cafe, minding my own business, admiring the world around, and occasionally lift my head, for the reasons described above, and, boom... there they are, graphics waiting for me to take them ;)

I used to find those on New Year's eve in Pasadena as we all drunkenly awaited the Rose Parade...I remember finding one such graphic atop a police car but I was nabbed before I could completely unscrew it from it's base. $5.00 fine but 40 minutes in the back of the paddy wagon with all the other drunks was plenty punishment enough.

Thanks for showing! There should be a law for all photographers requiring carrying a camera (any camera will do) at all times. These show how an observant eye cannot not shoot in any situation. The world is better off when sharing these moments.

And yes, I fully concur, we shall always carry a camera, and, if I am allowed an amendment to the proposed legislation, a tripod :)

I like the O'Hare shots the most.
I find it interesting how a change in white balance for those shots can result in a dramatically different rendering. I guess it is true for most shots, but here it works quite well with the abstract nature. Attached are WB variations of the second O'Hare shot. The original, As Shot WB, as well as Auto, are close to Fluorescent one. The two variations are Cloudy and Tungsten.
Come to think of it, you can almost do a triptych or even tetraptych of the same image, with just WB changed. Kinda Andy Warhol, just abstract.

The O'Hare shot is fantastic.. I love it :)
This shows the difference between taking a photograph and making a photograph.

Excellent work. I like the first best. The light and shadow areas really brings out the shapes in relation to each other and the surrounding sky. And btw, I am still waiting for one of friend to take me on ride in his sunroof car so that I can do just what you have done in your last shot!
