Title: Where do you get boxes to ship matted prints?
Post by: HSakols on April 13, 2013, 09:56:23 am
I actually have sold some matted landscape prints and now must ship them across the country. Because the prints were sold at a gallery price, they need to be shipped in a professional manner. Where can I get cardboard boxes that will fit a matted 22x28 inch print?

If I were shipping them to a close friend, they would come in a durable yet funky cardboard contraption made all of recycled materials.

There is a place in Barrie called Custom Boxes that makes them, for a 5.5x 7.5x 1. in box they charge less than $1.00 Peter

Uline is a good choice, for sure. Lots of options. Sometimes after including the cost of shipping the boxes to you the costs can get pretty high, though.
I have had a lot of luck acquiring boxes from frame shops (that would otherwise be recycled)- boxes that had transported 32x40 or 40x60 inch mat board, foam core, etc. These boxes can be wonderful for shipping.
Alternatively, a custom crate can be easily built from 1/4 inch plywood and lengths of 1x2 doug fir or pine. Many home improvement shops will even cut the pieces to size for you and you assemble with screws. It's a strong, fairly lightweight, and professional looking option... Hope this helps.
