Title: Twisted Holly Trees, Tomies Wood 1
Post by: Enda Cavanagh on April 11, 2013, 09:55:21 am
Here you see a photo of Tomies wood near Killarney in County Kerry in the south west of Ireland captured on a visit in February 2013. I spent a week in Kerry and 3 of those days were in Tomie's Wood. The forests around Killarney are stunningly beautiful and Tomies Wood is definitely one of my favorites. It is full of character and there are loads of photographic opportunities. Here you see one of my favorites.

Enda I like this and others on you're site. It is what I take as an honest image. With that integrity, it does not create and over elaborate, rather it is very true to what is there as it is, without extras.
It is an image that you have to  give time too and then it gives a lot back. By that I mean the more I look at it the more it grows on me. A bit like classical music it can take a while to discover what is there, when you do you are greatly rewarded.
Thanks

I agree. It's true of Enda's work generally and this one in particular. I enjoy coming back to it and wandering through the scene.

Yeah, I've been back here a few times. Enda's a master of making the whole scene the subject.

I've also come back to this one several times.
As is the norm for Enda's work, it is very well crafted.  However, I cannot get comfortable with it.  Even at the larger scale, I can't find any particular item that pulls me in.
I suspect this would be great at wall size.

Just my opinion Enda.

Thanks for all the comments guys. Really appreciated.
Chuck I guess the idea was the Holly Tree on Steroids in the middle was the main subject and the 3 tress on the 2 sides are there to frame it, to give the viewer the felling that one's standing at the scene and to lead your eyes into the scene. And no problem at all giving you opinion  :)

Yes, it's definitely a scene you want to walk into and explore.
