Here is another set of images taken during Sept-Oct 2012 during a trip with some close friends to Iceland, toured with Tim Vollmer and Iurie Belegurschi. I opted for a month wherein there would be a chance to capture Aurora, but it still would not be as cold as winter. We did however manage to catch one of the fiercest snowstorms in the country for the past 20 yrs as we got stuck a couple of days up in akureyri.
Will be doing a safari and workshop as well this Sept 2013, with Iurie. for those who might be interested to join the trip. :) In the meantime, will be meeting in Norway in a couple of weeks to iron details of the tour while catching some landscape.

Disoriented, geothermal land gets filled with snow after a snowstorm on the way to Dettifoss. Was quite happy with this, for a near the equator dweller this was most certainly a treat to capture.

Glacial Jewels, First sunrise in Iceland. at Jokulsarlon Glacier, walked almost towards the end going right to get away from all the people. Some chunks of Ice which I had to fish from the lagoon as everything kept moving and I was going for a long exposure.

Green Energy, this one a freezing night on top of the some mountains in akureyri, iceland. after a september snowstorm. night cleared for one last night of aurora though it was pretty moderate during our whole stay (4 nights out of 14). no moon, the cover was pretty wide but not strong enough so I had to extend my exposure to 30s. looking forward to hunting some strong northern lights this march in tromso. hopefully I get those overhead ones that are so strong so can expose from 5-10 secs.

Band of Ice, first sunset, jokulsarlon glacier, before the bridge and the tourists, had to slide down a hill with all my gear. ended up in a narrow shoreline with all kinds of motion from the ice depending on how big and how near, opted for an ultra long exposure for an artsy feel.

Passage Way, Overcast weather starts to give way to a bit of light at kirkjufell, this is one of the most iconic mountain + water stream landscapes I have ever heard of and seen so it was but natural for us to make 3 trips to this place to make sure that we captured it in the right light. kirkjufell, snaefellsnes.

svartifoss waterfall in skaftafell national park, a close up shot is what I chose to take to showcase the hexagonal basalt columns, the light of the sun also cast a shadow over half the falls which made for an interesting monochrome mood.

Wow. Some beauties there. I'm still trying to persuade my wife that this is somewhere we should visit. Images like this might just swing it, fingers crossed.

Iceland, to me, is a magical place and you truly managed to convey that feeling with your fantastic images. While they are about landscape, you got some movement in them (via thermal vents, long exposures, etc...) and I like it.

I totally agree. My one trip to Iceland in 1974 was absolutely magical, and your images convey the magic well.

Great images. Most of the color work I see from Iceland is waaaay over processed even on this site-landscape on steroids. These are believable.

First Act, first to shoot to check the aurora has its advantages... you get a chance to test shoot the first burst. here is the reykjanes lighthouse with the northern lights over the peninsula using the car headlamps to illuminate the ground.

CINDERELLA, first landscape light image in iceland during our two week trip, to start september 2012, we opted to stop at the anti-tourist spot of jokulsarlon so we could have some peace shooting the sunset. in this part the shore was almost non existent and we had to lift some really big ice from the shores as they were all floating around.

Lost in Motion, one of the most recognizable landscape images of Iceland is Kirkjufell, having done my research on this location for months prior to the visit and constantly searching and looking out for updated images. I have not seen a colored Infrared shot of it, so here is a false color infrared shot of the iconic landscape.

Svínafellsjökull, South Iceland (i think) lost track of where we were.. not so intimate as the ice layers were huge... you can barely see a person walking from this vantage point. Sand from the sea blasted by the winds into the glacier give the blue ice a surreal matte finish. No processing done, just resize and sharpen for web.

Seljalandsfoss, one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland, you can walk behind it to take a picture behind but it only works during non tourist hours and when the sun sets right in front of it. This is the not so typical view, the falls being swept by the winds, sometimes the wind gets so strong the waterfalls go completely vertical. Here is my version of trying to be artsy artsy with the composition and light.

The Ride, This was our ride in Iceland. Yeah it was bare, old and beat up but it did the job. A True Road Warrior, here is a tribute to the Toyota. A 2 deg night on the reykjanes peninsula. Will be traveling this march 13 to norway with my guide, now friend and partner from
iceland, Iurie Belegurschi.... hunting aurora north of Tromso.

reykjanes peninsula, 30 min out of reykjavik... great place to hunt aurora, also a lighthouse, a coastline with karsts, and a geothermal area all walking distance from each other. amazing location.

a top shot from on of the hills hovering jokusarlon glacier lagoon in iceland taken during our first day of shooting down south past skaftafell, wanted to take a vantage shot after skidding down these slopes and carrying ice boulders around for images.

Shine bright like a Diamond, Jokulsarlon Black Sand Beach, huge ice carried from the river mouth from the lake into the sea only to be broken apart by waves and washed back into the beach opposite the glacier, perfectly scattered and broken into 5 foot pieces.
