When I was leaving Kodak Russia, my colleagues gave me this as a farewell gift. The three trembling guys are Kodak's local distributors, from which I was trying to recoup millions of overdue receivables, after the 1998 currency collapse.
I am posting this hoping it might satisfy the curiosity of some who were interested in my military experience.
P.S. This is supposed to be a lighthearted take on the recent debate. However, any attempt to use this thread to revive it will be immediately shot down. Only jokes at my expense are allowed (I mean, just look at those muscles!).

I was the finance manager of Kodak then, so a lot of negotiations, give and take, access to new deliveries in exchange for payment of debt, step-by-step, etc.

Have you read "Red Plenty" by Francis Spufford? An interesting book about an earlier period in Russia when they really believed, based on math as well as ideology, that they could plan their economy to outdo America.

Very military, Slobodan. Especially the film bandolier. Of course you were vulnerable since the bandolier didn't hold the right ammunition: CF and SD cards.

Naah.. Kodak is not off-limit. Though, come to think of it, making fun of Kodak is like taking a candy from a baby ;)

Funny you said that, Russ. Turns out, Kodak, not me, ended up being vulnerable because of the lack of the "right ammunition." I told them then that film has maybe about five more years of glory... they laughed me off. It turned out, I shot my last film back in 2004, exactly five years later.

If I may adopt the rôle of bottom feeder for a moment: should you still own that 500 Series instrument you had at Aphrodite's Birthplace, and not intend using it other than to keep the door wedged open, I can suggest a home for it very close to mine. I personally guarantee to see that it gets here there, and that a more suitable, alternative door wedge would be supplied in lieu. Win - win, Spirit of Xmas etc.?

However, if someone is interested in making ME a nice Xmas present, I do have a 500 CW in pristine condition, with maybe 15-20 roll films through it in its lifetime, and sitting idle since 2004. It was also recently inspected by an official Hasselblad repairman, during a show in Chicago. With it, several CF lenses: 50mm FLE, 120 macro, 180 mm, 1.4x converter, Zeiss Softar and several other filters. All with boxes, original packaging, proof of purchase (I was the first and only owner). PM me if interested.

It sounds lovely, Slobodan, but there's a hitch: unless there are European invoices for the purchase, it would probably attract tax if sold to someone here. A guy in Spain tried to sell a used product to another chap not in the European zone, and Spain demanded a massive percentage for the pleasure of allowing it out of Spain's borders. The deal fell through, as far as I know.
It'd make a great Christmas present for someone, but if I were you, I'd keep it. You never know when your love of digi may desert you and you go back to the beauty of first principles.
