Title: Pana GH - Top Euro motorcycles in scenic locations
Post by: Shivz on November 06, 2012, 12:15:15 pm
I have been very disappointed with my GH1 stills image quality. I think it's overall just a couple of notches above a point & shoot such as LX7 or a Canon G series. I find the images noisy even at ISO 800 and with low contrast, dynamic range and overall lack of wow-factor.

And yes, I am in the market for an upgrade. I won't sell the GH1, since the market for the used ones are pathetic, and mine is in great shape and basically in like-new condition. I want to get a companion camera, which most probably be a GH3. But I would love a camera with a larger sensor, but there is nothing out there that would meet my needs. OM-D is great but it's a bit too small.

So, lately I have been relying even more on post-production to get some satisfaction out of the GH1. Photoshop is a lifesaver.

Below are a few images images of very premium European sport motorcycles, shot at a state park about 40 minutes north of NYC. With one in the City.

All below with GH1 with 14-140 lens and post-processed in PS. Please view in original size which is about 1400 pixels wide.

Well, the camera may be mediocre, but the bikes are awesome! I used a G1 for a short period and didn't notice any significant issues with image quality. I use a GH2 now, and I'm very happy with it.

You stated that you are working on the images in Photoshop. Are you shooting in RAW? I would agree that the JPG images out of a Panasonic are not that great, but the RAW images with modest amount of PP are excellent.
