I wanted a sort of ink drawing look that emphasised the lines. Frustrated painter I guess.

Aaah, I've been there and smelt that bush — you've done it great justice.
I see the pen and ink motivator but I doubt that a pen and ink could ever manage the lustrous sheen of that gum trunk.
This is an image to ponder and breathe in deeply.

Does a nice job of capturing the feel of bright sunlight and dark shadow.

I'd like to see a little more detail in the shadows, but the image really conveys the late afternoon (or early morning) shadow, so I think it is only a teeny bit over and not enough to cry over spilt milk.

Sure it can. You are only dealing with values here. Artists have managed that for centuries.
