Title: Canon 5DIII question about Focus Priority
Post by: walter.sk on July 18, 2012, 08:59:40 pm
I've been playing with my new 5DIII and finally got all of the custom settings the way I want them.  There are two settings, though, that I can't seem to get working right and I want to know if the problem is me or the camera.

1) When the AF drive is set for Single Shot, it doesn't seem to matter whether I have set the camera to not be able to fire if focus is not achieved, or release priority, which would allow the camera to fire even if not focused.  The camera shoots whether I have focus or not, regardless of how that control is set.

2) In AI Servo mode, I tried setting both the first shot and second shot priorities to not fire unless focus is achieved, and that doesn't seem to matter, either.  No matter how I set these, the camera fires whether focus is achieved or not.

Could there be a problem with the camera?
Title: Never Mind! I figured it out!

Camera is fine!  It was me.  What I did was defocus the lens and try to take a picture, and the camera took the picture.  But when I tried the same with the AF button (the "*" button) held down, the camera refused to fire, both in single shot and servo modes, when I tried to focus at something too close for the lens.
