Very fine, Seamus. I love #2, but #4 is in a class by itself. HCB would love it, Gene Smith would love it, Elliott Erwitt would love it, Robert Frank would love it. . .  I could add more, but you get the point.

These are wonderful. I love the interaction in #2 of the child and his (?) curiosity with the pants on the statue.

Technically, you've hit the mark also.

Well done, all in all.

#4 is a cracker and #2 isn't bad either.
Keep 'em coming.

#1 is interesting to me because of a thing I was recently made more aware of -- it would be, I think, vastly better if there was a little more sharpness into the background. If the sign in the background were soft but not that soft, this one could be quite wonderful.

I had until recently been thinking entirely in terms of "in focus" and "not in focus" when considering depth of focus, and it's useful to think more subtly and continuously than that.

Many thanks for your kind remarks, folks - I thought I'd lost it there for a while.

Amolitor: Personally, I prefer shallow depth of field on this one. Horses for courses, I suppose.

Beautiful images. I really enjoy the shallow depth of field because it makes a statement about what you found interesting enough to focus on.... and then after my eye has explored that, I then wander around to see what else is a bit more obscured and not so 'in my face'.

I love the elderly lady in the top right of #3 and how isolated yet independent she seems. I also love how in this image there are 3 different ages and types of relationship each is having at that age. Elderly male friendship... Young working on a relationship... and the elderly day by herself.

#4... well.. amazingly beautiful image. This image should become one of those iconic images that future generations refer to.

Thank you for posting Seamus.

An excellent set, all four. I agree that #4 is a real stunner.

That's exactly what I was trying to convey, Julie - it's great when somebody 'gets it'.

Glad you all like the set. Thanks - I was (and still am) at a stage when I'm not trusting my own judgement so it's really encouraging to get this kind of fantastic response. I'll post some more soon.
