The incoming rain across the valley and lake was quite spectacular, but too damn many trees...did the best I could at framing despite the liability of the foliage.

Without the foliage in the foreground, this image would be a big nothing, flat cold and distant. The foliage in the foreground provides a necessary contrast, a comparison of tones, and of distance, and places the viewer in space. In, of course, my opinion only.
