So I logged in this morning on another wet dreary day here in southern England which is suffering yet another 'drought', and expected to be uplifted by the 'New Server'. What a let-down.
It all looks the same. No bells, no whistles - all the excitement of the new boiler we had fitted a few weeks ago. Someone said to me "are you pleased with your new boiler?", "Over the moon I said - it heats the water rather well". Come on you guys - stop playing with all the new cameras that I can't afford to buy and make this New Server sing!
I know it's a free site but all the best things in life are meant to be free. The New Server was going to be the thing that lifted me out of thinking about the rain, the double-dip recession I'm told we're now in, and the new light fitting I'm meant to be putting up today. Plus I forgot to put the rubbish out for the refuse collector this morning so got it in the neck from my wife - grumble, grumble....

Well I was just going to say how much faster the new server is than the old one and a very smooth changeover too. Good job. And presumably it is hardware only, so no change to software features is expected.
You should have got out in yesterday's sunshine and got some serotonin. ;)

Sorry to disappoint.
The only reason for mentioning that we were moving to a new server is that if there were problems, people would be forewarned.
There weren't, and so just carry on as usual.

Oh, yes, and though the previous server was fast, the new one is lightning. not to mention more robust. Our uptime should go from 99.99 to 99.999. Now isn't that something to get excited about?

Ah, but you should know that with proper deconvoluted sharpening, both versions should be equal… :P

Michael I'm very excited! This is a fantastic site and you are a great host. LL is often my first port of call in the morning and I do appreciate that what goes on under the bonnet (hood I believe for the yankees) is unseen but essential.

Great work! I’ve moved content to many a new server over the years and it is a tribute to the IT guys when everything goes smoothly.
It also explains the periodic minor issues recently.
So what are the nuts and bolts of the move? Is the new home a clustered server group with redundant everything? Is it done in-house of courtesy of a hosting company??

Very appropriate: isn't a lot of this site (the forums anyway) about getting excited about that extra 0.001%, and debating which camera system provides it?
