Title: Seeing the Unseen
Post by: alibenn on March 29, 2012, 07:07:43 am
Night Photography has pretty much been my life for the last 3 years, taking images from the Himalaya of Nepal and Tibet to Spain and the Equatorial Oceans of SE Asia. This one was taken in Northern Spain and remains something of a favorite. Really easy to take, just a few minutes by a quarter moon, letting the Atlantic Ocean do all the work.

Best wishes all.

Very attractive idea, location and execution.

It puts a creative effort into the image that I find is usually absent in landscape.

A beautiful and inspiring capture.

I wonder how many viewers have thought something along the lines of, “Note to self: Do some time lapse studies.”

For me, not to suggest that a ND filter was used for the capture above, but it’s another reminder to order the Lee Big Stopper ND filter. If only they weren't on a 6 month long backorder!

A minor criticism is that the capture may be a little tight on the sides.

Anywho, great work! It definitely scores big in the arena of enchanting imagery!

Thanks for the comment and critique. This is actually taken at night: 331 seconds @ f5 ISO 200 by Moonlight.

I pretty much specialise in Night Photography, as you will see if you click the Seeing the Unseen Link in my Signature.

As for the sides. I was limited because of some more sea stacks, and preferred to isolate these subjects rather than have the start of some more at the edges of the frame.

Best wishes, Alister

Great shot, I am envious and I am definitely going to have a go at this.

I saw something similar on the Smibs website a while ago Smibs - Greece (http://smibs.tv/fine-art-photography-weekly/greece) with some very nice long exposure images, which got me wanting to try this technique, and seeing your image has now given me the impetus to get out and do it.

You live in the perfect place. I'm moving back to Scotland in the autumn after over 1o years in the Far East, can't wait. Best wishes, Alister

Welcome back, you will find that absolutely nothing has changed, which is a good thing. The traffic is also becoming quite busy now on the island, as we begin the run-up to the main tourist season, as we saw at least four cars last night on our way to our favourite picnic spot!!!!

I really like this. Out of curiosity: what size are those rocks?

The sea stacks are about 30-40 feet high, pretty significant structures. Cheers, Alister
