Title: Does madmanchan still do ICC printer profiles?
Post by: rick_k on March 16, 2012, 04:00:09 pm
I'm wondering if Eric Chan is still doing custom printer profiles.

I thought I would check first before sending him the printed targets since some other sites like Cathy's seem not to be doing it any more. I've sent him email but haven't received anything back. I also sent him a private message on this site and nothing there either.

Just so you know, he's a bust guy...and just got back from a week or so off. I can't answer for him, but you may just have to wait till he responds...I wouldn't send him anything till he does.

a hint - find a real good bug in LR or ACR, report it and then add "oh, by the way..."  8)

he built some profiles for me during the winter but really, between all the current LR4, ACR and upcoming PS6 releases, I'm sure he's pretty maxed out :)

Eric has just supplied me with some profiles which I've only just started evaluating. My first impression is that they are very good.

I'm not so certain what you meant with this adjective, but according to the Urban Dictionary (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bust) definition, I don't think Eric would approve of this adjective to describe him.  >:(

As I understand the X-Rite EULA, the standard agreement wouldn't allow him to offer a remote profiling service.

Perhaps the additional licensing agreement costs make this a labor of love rather than profit. I have benefitted mightily from Eric Chan's Epson 3800 FAQ, its pretty clear that it was a labor of love. I hope that his work at Adobe is treating him well.

One can get permission from X-rite to do so. IOW, a non standard agreement is possible on a case by case basis. Gotta ask.
